I have traded some oil with a wvo user and the oil I have has some residual petrol in it. As I want to make a batch up for the WE I would like to process some.
Has anyone processed petrol contaminated oil?
I assume it should process OK and if no one has any advice I will do a Dr Pepper.

Taralec has.
(You on here, Alec?)
-
I don't think Alec is on here but I lifted his quote from a VOD thread
"It will process fine-but the diesel will play no part in the reaction ,and just pass thru into the bio as a co-solvent.You need to estimate how much diesel there is, and then base your chemicals on the veg oil only.
I have just made bio from wvo with petrol in it-it processed fine, but the petrol has passed thru into the bio-you can smell it"

I've processed veg contaminated with petrol. I gave it a good drying as the thinking was it would remove petrol, and then processed normally. It stank of petrol throughout processing, but didn't seem to have a deleterious effect.
Might be better to process with no titration method rather than traditionally, but should be OK.

wouldnt an emertion heater explode it?
:o

Not really, its no different to meth in that respect. May evaporate a bit but should be fine.

Thanks for that. Will use it in a batch on Sunday.

yes true i guess
:)

i think you will be fine, but, if you wanted to remove it, id think a demethed glyc wash would take most of it out.
-
Why is that? Does it mix well with water?
-
I processed a load of whites that were contaminated with kerosene (the dregs I got from a WVO user). They processed perfectly well. The Glyc stank of Kero but the bio only had a faint aroma of it so I suspect most ends up in the glyc

I just remember an idea i had for cleaning WMO with glyc. Andy (glycerides) did a test and they did not seem to split.
Hence me thinking that mineral oil would be taken into the glyc, but the veg spit off, in the same way as most of the other crud ends up in the glyc.
Of course, there would be the consideration of an emulsion, promoted by the mineral oil, but, as above, people have done reactions with mineral contaminants before without issue.

I might do a sample test if Andy can spare me some of his precious glyc, I know he loathes to part with it! ;D

What are you wanting to test, Arash?
Julian and I proved it's no use with non-polar substances, mineral oil.
I have 30L sitting outside from the weekend. It was not demethed but was used to clean up the next 180L batch of wvo, so it's a bit on the solid side now.

I want to see if dry and demethed glyc will "wash out" the petrol or not.

I shall save it for you.
The oil was pretty good beforehand and the glyc didn't come out foamy, the usual sign that water's been taken up.
I also got less out than I put in, another good sign.
