Post by: Head Womble on March 25, 2013, 01:51:39 PM
Has anyone got contact details for panelbeater on the VOD,
I need the fuel pump he's selling but can't contact him due to VOD being down.

My Email has been bounced back as an unknown address,

Sorry 'bout that

This is what happens when people use online email to join a forum

They forget what it is and then account goes dormant on them

It might be an idea for people to check their contact details on VOD and make sure email address
is one you actually use - you won't get spam, just messages from idiots like me.....

Hah - I just used my mobile internet connection and now I can get on VOD - it only banned my fixed line IP address.
For all those that cannot get on after deleting U2Us, it may be worth switching off your router for a minute or two then restarting it. Unless you have a static IP with your provider (and not many do) then you should get a new IP and be able to get on VOD

It's not a pop at you Pete, far form it mate, I know you're working hard to get things fixed.

It's just frustrating.

Jules, it's not worked for me, I'm still banned.

Mark

turn off and unplug router from mains

leave for 5 minutes

Power back up

Some routers need a while offline to allocate a new IP

Can you go into your router settings and FORCE it to get a new IP ??

Possibly, I wouldn't have a clue how.

I've been surfing and found that virgin media provide a static IP address.
The only way to change it is to unplug it for a week or two,
and that ain't gana happen.

Ring Virgin and ask them to change it

Tell them you are getting refused access to some sites

If it's only fr 24hrs then I'm not worried, but if it's going to take longer to fix this problem then I will.

Just been on my daughters phone and left a message for panelbeater.

You could always try a proxy sever. Not sure if the forum software would just block it anyway but could be worth a go

Do you know, it's times like this that I realise just how little I know about all this computer stuff.

What's a proxy sever ?
Title: Re: Help
Post by: julesandtash on March 25, 2013, 07:49:47 PM
It is a computer that sits in between your ISP and the web. You send your request to the proxy and it sends a request out to the selected site but from it's own IP address, not yours.
Google 'proxy server' and you should find an explanation and a few free online proxies.

They are commonly used to hide peoples identity on the internet when they are up to naughty things but, in your case, hiding your identity may just stop the VOD thinking you are a naughty banned person.

The other option, if you are friendly with your neighbours, is to borrow a bit of their wifi. If you can see their router (the SSID or name that it transmits) and they are willing to give you the passkey then you can just log on to their network and you will not be banned.
Or, if one of them has BT broadband and a home hub or business hub, it will probably create a BT openzone hotspot.
You can connect to that and then purchase a BT openzone voucher (online) to completely legitimately use the service.
even better, if you have a friend somewhere else that has BT broadband, ask them for their login details and you can use the openzone for free (one of the extras that comes with being a BT customer - which, I hasten to add, I am not. I am with Plusnet)

I think there is a proxy server called hidemyip.com. Its free, unlike some that want money to use them.

Posts overlapped.

I've just tried three different ones, they come up with the site but when I press login I get a 403 error message.

Mark get your IP address from your posts on here (its in the bottom right hand corner of your post where it says Report to moderator then the number) and get them to remove it from the blocked list on VOD its not difficult just a basic text file that the server compares the incoming connection to.

Picked up the pump today, so tomorrow I'll get it fitted and replace the cambelt as well.
I've all so got to MOT my car tomorrow, so a busy day for me.

Pete, when the pump and injectors were on your car was it overly smokey, I ask as I'll use the injectors as well if they're good ones.
