Title: Prep Oil
Post by: Adamski on March 19, 2013, 12:17:37 PM
I have acquired quite a large quantity of prep oil, its not completely solid in this temperature, kind of soft and slushy. Having thought about it I don't want to process it for biodiesel. So I want to move it on.
What's the going rate for this type of oil?
I have around 250 x 16L sealed buckets of the stuff so approx 4000L.

Where are you?

I might be tempted to dispose of some of that for you...

If you put it in an IBC, i would imagine, maybe £250 / tonne?

Why not use it though - i get some of that stuff, and it processes fine.

Not processed with it before, so unsure about what temperature its good too, once processed.
It's from a private college where the chef was very particular on changing the oil frequently, so will titrate low, not like my chip shop abused oil!
Who would pay £250 a tonne? Commercial users? Would they collect tho?
I could put it in ibc's , it would cost me about £140 for 4 ibc's tho.

I'm in Shropshire on the north wales border.

I get it from a school too (maybe prep 'palm' them off?)

Anyhow, its not too bad with temperature.  I wouldnt use it in winter, but its way better than the tallow i also get, which is mid summer only.

I reckon (although im just guessing) that a commercial collector would make the effort for 4k litres, but maybe not one.

You could, of course, just try ebay?

Personally, if it were mine, id keep it and use it (assuming that wasnt loads of bother) but then my central heating here also runs on bio.  Indeed, id be tempted to offer you some cash, but i just think i wouldn't be competitive with what you could get elsewhere.

Ahh, just looked at where you are - you know Dick Jotec will swap you for some of it?  He is close to Kidderminster.

A bit of a trek for me, although not impossible.

What sort of money would you be looking at for say 500 litres? No IBC, I'll carry it as is in the trailer.

That sort of oil will fetch £310/1000ltr IBC collected, the same as any fats and whites.

Slabster on the VOD forum has the info.

Think I'm going to hold fire and try process some in the warmer weather.
Probably use a washing machine drum suspended over my preheat tank with warm oil pumping over the fat to melt it.
Thank you all for your input, great info as always!
